The numbers are in from Friday's Harbourlight Charity Golf Classic at Millpond Golf & Country Club, and we're still a little stunned: $18,400 raised for the winter food bank — our best result in the tournament's history.
A sold-out field of 128 golfers teed off under a perfect September sky. By the time the dinner plates were cleared, the silent auction had turned a quilt, a cottage weekend, a year of oil changes, and forty-odd other donated items into full shelves for the months ahead.
What $18,400 does
To put the day in perspective, this one tournament funds:
- Fresh milk, eggs, and produce for every weekly hamper from November through March;
- The full Christmas Hamper Program — turkeys, fixings, and gifts for more than 200 households;
- Fuel and insurance for the delivery van that keeps rural routes running all winter.
